Naritasan Shinshoji Temple is one of the most large n highly popular Buddhist temple located around the Narita city not far from the airport. It is built in the year 940 around its main sacred object of worship,a statue of the Buddhist Fudo Myoo deity. Temples are built to serve the Buddhist religious tradition, and are characterised by a 'sanmon' gate at the entrance. Large 'sanmon' gates at Shinsoji temple in Tokyo have impressive roofs and fierce temple guardian statues (niozo) in their columns.
